Short description: The firefighters gear that has been against flames can contain a range of carcinogenic chemicals. The challenge is to find sustainable cleaning procedures for regular maintenance of the personal equipment (suit, gloves, hat, boots, helmet) that would make it safe for reuse.
Market potential: Slovenia has 120 fire brigades with the same challenge, as well as others across Europe. Instructions for regular cleaning, inspection and repairs are also described in the SIST-TP CEN/TR14560:2019.
Timing: The fact that firefighters’ own safety has not yet been taken care of is worrying and requires urgent action. There is currently no firefighter who can be completely confident in their used equipment.
Desired result: A sustainable cleaning service/system for maintenance of personal protective equipment of firefighters. It must include all the key points defined by the SIST-TP CEN/TR14560:2019 standard. We want to ensure that our firefighters are always provided with clean and impeccable equipment.
